Each April, Istanbul plants millions of tulips in its parks, gardens, and along its boulevards for the Istanbul Tulip Festival, celebrating a flower deeply tied to the city's Ottoman heritage (the tulip reached Europe from here). Emirgan Park becomes a sea of color, and giant tulip "carpets" are laid out at Sultanahmet in the historic heart of the city.
